Charleville

From Muckadilla to Charleville, stopped at Mitchell for smoko. Not much going on In Mitchell, but they had a great bakery!  The trucks that come hurtling through are amazing.

Charleville by lunchtime. Wandered around town, then set up camp. Having 3 days here. On the agenda is the Cosmos Centre, guided tour of an amazing old pub, bilbys and a World War Two airforce site tour.

Weather is fantastic. About 29 during the day, but a chilly 5 at night. Thank goodness for the hot water bottles! Started the day with my flat white espresso thanks to Dezziz technology, soaking up the serenity and Kookaburras. Then off for the war tour. Very interesting. In 1942 the US Army Aircorp were stationed at Charleville, and 3,500 airmen and ground crew were stationed here, and were housed in tent cities. 160 aircraft were stationed at the base. The site also housed the Norden Bomb Sight. The first mechanical devise for accurate bombing. It was kept in a concrete bunker when not in use. Photos follow of the remains of the site.
