Charleville to Longreach

BIG day driving. 500 odd klm's. fuel up with a bacon and tomato roll and coffee from Fat Freddy's and off we go!   The land is so flat and dry. Quite spectacular in its vastness. Pulled up at Blackall for lunch at a truck stop, for a sanga under shady a tree, then back on the road. Through Barcaldine, past about 500 dead kangaroos,  a mother emu and her 5 babies, and into Ilfracombe to stretch our legs.

The Wellshot Hotel at Ilfracombe is one of those outback sights. The whole ceiling is covered in stockman hats and money! Quite bizarre! Full of outback paraphernalia. Emus are a common sight out here. One even casually wandering down the road!

Onwards towards Longreach....getting close to drink o'clock, so we pulled up on a patch of dirt along the roadside to make camp for the night. Really feeling like outback adventurers now! Something quite "free" about having a shower on the side of the road, then sitting round the camp fire, while road trains hurtle past :)

Easy start to the morning, and 20 klm's later we are n dry, hot, windy Longreach.
