Charleville Part Two....

More history discovering around Charleville. Had a wander around Historic House. Amazing the amount of memorabilia in this place. A few photos below. The main item I was rapt to find was an old telephone switchboard the same as the one I used to operate at James Cook University back in 1979 - the old plug and cord. It was so much fun to use. Bit different from phones now! Also a typewriter the same as the one I learnt on in high school (in the really old days!)

Next on for lunch at Corones Hotel, and a beer at the "supposed" longest bar in Australia. See the pic, complete with town local who of course had to pull a face!  Did a guided tour of the pub built by Harry Corones in the early 1920's. Only the highest quality materials used. It is spectacular for its time.

Later on out to see the Bilbys. No photos 'cos they only come out at night and like to hide. Not very co-operative for photo sessions! The are very cute.

And the BIG event I came here for...for Cosmos Centre???? No go, the sky clouded over, so it was cancelled!!! Aaahhhhh! Oh well! Will have to come back.

So Charleville was great. Lots of history to be discovered. But...load up, and ship out to Longreach, about 550 klm drive. And look out.....Bevy is in control.  No smart comments thanks boys!
