Berry Springs & Litchfield

On the way to Litchfield National Park is an oasis....Berry Springs. The best of all the springs we have been to.

Just down the road we camped at Tumbling Waters. This would have to be the best Van Park in Australia. Many thanks to Carol and Mick for suggesting we go there, otherwise we would have driven straight past.

A tropical haven.

With a billabong in the middle of the park, complete with freshwater crocodiles that get fed raw chicken bits at 5.00pm every Saturday! Just after we arrived and got sorted :)

Also quite a few night herons there to steal the chook pieces too!

 Stalking the tucker!

Gotcha!

Billabong water lilies....very pretty.

The billabong.

Saturday night is Deckchair Cinema. Bring a chair and watch a movie on the big screen under  the stairs. Brilliant!  We watched The Guardians kids movie.

And that's not all. They have a fabulous cafe. Sunday morning brekky, with a visit from a wildlife ranger for a show and tell on a native animal. This week was an albino python. Got very brave and had a hold!!!

It felt like rubber, and a bit odd squeezing you!

But wait...there is still more. Sunday night was Roast Night. Man! Simple food cooked well! It was superb.

Also had a walk around the perimeter in the bush.

The native flora is lovely.

And finally, a huge billabong across the way. To fish and swim in.

No fish for Dezzi. Bevy did catch one though! It was very funny.

Lovely peaceful spot (once the foul mouthed, obnoxious, rude teenagers left!)

You could easily spend a week at this fabulous spot. But, for us Litchfield was calling.

So did the dirt road shortcut (30 klm of bump and rattle) to Wangi Falls.

In the heat of the day - 38 degrees - this was heaven!

Spent plenty of time here swimming, floating on the noodle, and being doused by the waterfall! It was brilliant t the end of the day when all the day trippers left :)

There are two falls, and you can get drowned under both! Bliss!

Next day headed down the 4WD track to Reynolds River and Surprise Creek Falls.

More red dust !

Massive termite mounds!

Of all shapes and sizes. These are Magnetic Mounds. They always face the same way - their wide side facing east/west.

A Toyota that didn't quite make the bend in the road! Dezzi checking out what parts he can scavenge ha ha!

This bit maybe :)

Plenty of water crossings!

Dez checking out if we can cross the Reynolds River to get to the falls. Unfortunately there was a couple of deep potholes under there, so we called it quits at this point, because we were on our own, and no winch if we got stuck in the deep hole! AND there are crocs in this area!

More water....

Had a walk along the Greenant Creek track.

Always prepared!

This was beautiful! So tropical after the open plains of the Reynolds River track.

Next stop. Tolmer Falls.

No swimming here....just looking, to protect the Ghost Bats and Horseshoe Bats.

There was a bush fire nearby, so the view was very smokey.

Some of the native trees are starkly stunning.

Lunch at Tabletop Swamp!

There are corella's here by the hundreds.

Reminder for all the Apollo and Britz drivers. There are plenty of them too!

This is what Elizabeth the GPS advised about the road to The Lost City! And she wasn't wrong. A new record holder for the worst dirt road. Only 10 klm, but man, you could get lost in the corrugations! Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY!

The Lost City is amazing. Collections of sandstone rocks that look like ruins. Were they eroded? Or put there by aliens???

Simply awe inspiring.

Last, but, certainly not least was Florence Falls.  Beautiful spot, and everyone new it. Very crowded. Fabulous swim, and dunk in the waterfall though.

The stream below the falls.

It is actually hard work getting under the waterfall. It keeps pushing you away.

So good - and so much fun.

Too many tourists :(

View from the top.  There were so many stairs to climb, could hardly walk the next day ha!

This feral sow was hilarious. She just kept wandering through the camp, and took a fancy to the bag esky complete with a few beers in it, belonging to the campers next door, and scarpered with it!

We called her Cheryl.

And of course, there were the amazing sunsets.

Litchfield National Park - stunning!

Next the long drive to Uluru via Tenant Creek and Alice Springs and "places of interest" along the way...........
